Repairs and really old photos

I finally made it back to Little Blake yesterday. It's been three weeks since we came up to do some clean up and meet with the insurance adjuster and the contractors.

Work at home and very uncomfortable tropical weather kept us in home's air conditioning.

The yard looks good now that all those downed trees are gone. Work is proceeding on the deck: the south side railing and the Henny Handrail are fixed. The foundations for the new deck posts have been set an the new posts can go in tomorrow. The roof panels should arrive Thursday or Friday. Everything should be done by the middle of next week. Wonderful, wonderful.

I took some photos, but I don't have the USB cable for the camera I used. They'll have to wait.
On another topic: following a tradition started by Jim Klingel, Kris, Jim, and I often got away for long weekends together in October. Teachers' unions and groups had meetings on the third Thursday and Friday. Jim Klingel went off with his sons for a long weekend, and I thought it was a good idea. Especially since the teachers' meetings were, to me, a big waste of time.

So, Kris, Jim, and I began going away for those October weekends. Several times, we "borrowed" Sidetrack for our escapes. In 1983, I took a couple photos of them at Sidetrack. In those ancient times, I had to have the film developed. When the slides came back from the processor, I sent the two below in for more processing and had 5x7 prints made. I'm sure I intended to have them framed and hung at home.

That did not happen for 27 years. Tuesday morning, I found the two prints, still in an envelope with a 1983 postmark. I brought them to Sidetrack yesterday afternoon. On the way here, I stopped at the Hudson, Wisconsin Wal-Mart and bought a couple frames.

About time.

They're now on the mantle here at Sidetrack.

About time.
