Weather radar

Let's see if this works.

Thunderstorm warning at Sidetrack

It's 5:35PM on Tuesday, 23 September. There's a Severe Thunderstorm Warning out for Polk County. The weather guy on WCCO just said that people in Balsam Lake and Luck are getting pelted right now.

September weekend photos

Well, trips to Cafe Wren don't offer the best opportunities for posting pictures here. So, now that I'm home...

The first is a picture of the incredible stillness on Friday afternoon.

That did offer the opportunity for another perspective of Sidetrack.

And here's the sunset on the surface of the lake.

On Saturday morning it was chilly after I emerged from the electric blanket. And since there was little prospect of getting warmth from the sun. I resorted to the use of hydrocarbons.

While it rained most of the day, there was a bit of clearing as the weather front passed.

And neighbor Larry had a tree taken down with some interesting cross sections.

From Cafe Wren in Luck

Friday evening was gorgeous. I paddled from north to south and back in still air on a mirror-like lake. Sunset was almost better in reflection on the water than in the sky.

Yesterday was all rain (almost). It was a light rain that just kept coming. By afternoon, I was chilled enough to turn on the heat. That meant that I could warm things up this morning so I didn't turn into a shivering jello heap after a shower.

Cloudy and cool this morning, so I came to Cafe Wren to check e-mail and read the news.

Now, I'll head back to Sidetrack and do some more work.

Of course, tomorrow and most of the coming week are to be sunny and warm.

Pump's ready and I'm not

The woman who answered Larry's phone said he'd been to Sidetrack yesterday and the problem was a pressure switch (sounds a lot cheaper than a new motor) and that the system was fixed.

Now, if only I weren't tied to a bunch of 40-page pdfs on this computer for the editing project I'm working on... Well, maybe I could put them on a flash drive... I could email them back to the authors on Monday... or Tuesday... or from Amery or Luck... Maybe I'll get up there yet.

Here's a burned pressure switch. Maybe that's what happened.

Below is a new pressure switch. I hope something like this is the solution to the problem. (I don't know what the labels mean. I was just looking for photos and this came from an illustrated guide to replacing a pressure tank and a pressure switch.)

Pump expert coming

Larry, the 2nd generation caretaker of our water system at Sidetack, has promised to go out to the lake and check on the pump and well.

I'm a little anxious about what he'll find.
