More of the beginning of spring on a rainy day

The columbine is blooming in the retaining wall.

So is the wild geranium.

Oh, and last week we introduced a new mammal into the Little Blake environment. Can you identify it?

More later, perhaps.

Here's a photo of the patio at Cafe Wren, Luck that Brook Waalen designed and built.

Old Big Blake dam

I did find a photo of the dam back in 2011.

Little news about Big Blake dam

I didn't get to the meeting on Saturday morning. I didn't get to the lake this weekend.

I did see the newsletter and struggled to read the fine print there.

Legal work is still underway to sort out land ownership of the dam site.

An experienced engineer has been hired to design and oversee the construction of the dam.

The DNR permitting process is complex and unpredictable. Once that is done and the land issues are settled, construction can get underway. Construction will take "days or weeks, not months" according to the newsletter.

Looking for help?

If you're looking for help with construction, repairs, or even landscaping and dock moving, I recommend Brook Waalen of Luck.

I met Brook at Cafe Wren (he and Stephanie -- well mostly Stephanie) run the place. He's an interesting guy and judging from his work on the patio at Cafe Wren, he does good work. Give him a call or drop him an e-mail.

Finally

We finally got to the lake.

One of the first things I found was a Libby print on a lake room window. A great souvenir of last summer.

Wow! The dock is in and stable.

Larry the gardener isn't here today, but he's been here.

A hummer buzzed me while I was sitting on the deck, so I put out some hummer food.

Later in the day, Mark and Greg showed up with a mini-troop of active boys. Yeah, we got samples of fish after dinner.

Weather is beautiful. Cabin is in good shape. And I'm relaxing! (Well, after resting up from dealing with a flat tire on the stored car. The tire will have to go home for repairs. It was too late on Saturday afternoon to find any service in Amery.)

Mark and the boys are in session at LBL

Mark and the boys have opened the cabin, explored the neighborhood, and gone fishing. (Did you hike down to the dam site?)

First, the neighborhood eagle's nest.

And on the ground below the next, a broken egg.

From the lake, a pail of pan fish (a pan of pail fish?).

And the bass.
