Grandma Bonnie's

5 July 2006

Grandma Bonnie's Coffee Shop
Amery, Wisconsin

"Grandma Bonnie" makes pretty good coffee and has great Internet access. Having this resource 15 miles from Sidetrack makes the little cabin on the little lake feel a lot less isolated. It's even a bigger change for me than having a television to watch storm warnings on. I'm not at all sure those are good changes. Being able to check e-mail and other Internet things does mean I feel less pressure to head home when I'm getting other work done.

Then again, it's 15 miles away and not someplace to come to on a whim.

I did come up on Saturday with the intention of doing some work as well as celebrating the Fourth of July. Nancy, Jo, and David were to come up Sunday, but Nancy sprained her ankle when a painting ladder broke Sunday. She decided to stay home and recuperate rather than coming up here and hobbling around the hill and the stairs.

The weather has been beautiful and I've been active and lazy. I used the weed cutter to open a weed free approach to the dock. I've pulled weeds in the courtyard. I've read and I've worked on comparative government. And I've napped and sat and looked at the lake. There was a nice little thunderstorm Monday morning, but it's been warm and dry with nice breezes.

I guess I have to go back tomorrow. I have more work to do preparing for the workshop in Indiana and nearly all of that will be online. Grandma Bonnie's is just not suited for that work and doesn't have a printer.

As usual, Sidetrack is wonderful. No special stories to tell, but that doesn't diminish the experience.
