Finally

Amid all the falderol of daily life, I finally got away for another weekend at Sidetrack. What a joy! As usual.

The patio weeds have been growing as fast as the flowers in the garden. But some of the volunteer flowers at the lake shore are gorgeous, even if the water is quite low.

Besides reading and contemplating the beauty of the lake, I did get the canoe out for the second time this summer. I paddled around the lake and up the Straight River, which is anything but straight. It looks like a beaver is starting a dam just upstream from the "new" cabin on the point.

One of the eagles showed me where it has a nest on the northeast shore. It's in a huge old pine tree at the north end of the old barnyard. Skip says there are baby eagles in the nest, but I couldn't get close enough for a picture or to confirm the existence of eaglets.

I even got some work done and spent time with neighbors. I took some naps. What a great deal.

I want to go back.

Comments:
I've always wanted to go up the river, or get dropped of around Big Round and take the river down and back to the house. Looks like fun.
With the low water I haven't had the boat up to Little Blake this year. May have to try it in the kayak... If you're out we'll make sure to wave!

We always wave at kayakers and canoeists we see going by.

Nothing bigger will go through the 8 inches of water over muck at the north end of Little Blake or through some bits of the "river." And there are culverts to portage around.

Now, if the beaver finishes its little construction project, we'll have to call the Georgetown beaver trapper.
