Opening weekend 2012

We opened Sidetrack on April 13. That's about a week sooner than we've opened before. In fact, it's the earliest in the year we've been at the lake except for the New Year's eve we were there.

We were late by Mother Nature's standards. The beautiful little bloodroot flowers were in bloom.

But the treat from Mother Nature came with a bunch of hoots.

The barred owl was noisy on Friday afternoon when we arrived. I looked up the hoo-hoo hoo-hoo hoot-hoo call in the bird book. The next morning, as we drove into the yard on our return from Cafe Wren, the big bird flew by the car. We sat in the car and soon spotted the bird staring at us. We saw it fly by again on Sunday. I suspect it might be nesting in one of the hollows in a dead maple tree near the garage.

Of course, cultural artifacts were prominent as well. Our forest of large mushrooms is well lit by the late afternoon sun.

Saturday was a windy day and the wind basket was spinning madly all day.

We had a wonderful couple of days. Saturday was windy, but warm and sunny. I got the Miata out of the garage and drove around the countryside some. Wonderful. We're ready to go back.
